Compulsory season started!!! Our Levels 4, 5 and 6 girls competed on Sept. 24th at the Penguin Invite and did an awesome job!! Level 6 Team won 1st Place and Level 5 - 2nd Place.  Adriana Esquivel (Level 6), Hannah Castillo (Level 5) and Kiara Bravo (Level 4 ) ended up in 1st Place All Around. Daniella Castillo (Level 5) ended up in 2nd Place All Around. All the girls made Universal Gymnastics shine once again. September 17-18, 2011: Cucuta, Colombia: 2011 - Mariana Chiarella, 15 years old, representing Peru Youth National Team competed this past weekend at the 2011 Junior/Youth South American Championships finishing 1st day on 14th Place AA. Top eight gymnasts on each event qualified for event finals. Mariana qualified for event finals on bars and floor. Mariana trains at Universal Gymnastics with head coach Maria Gonzalez.  For more information and full results click here. 

Danell Leyva of Homestead, Fla., has been named this week’s USA Today Olympic Athlete of the Week after winning his first U.S. national title at last week’s 2011 Visa Championships in Saint Paul, Minn.

St. Paul, Minneapolis: 2011 VISA Championships: Danell Leyva, from Universal Gymnastics won the 2011 VISA Championships with a 2 days combined score of 183.80. USAG also announced the 2011-2012 National Team members. Danell Levya named US Senior National Team and Max Mayr (who ended 5th in the Junior 16-18 category) also named Junior National Team member. Congratulations to both and to Coach Yin Alvarez for an awesome job. Congratulations to Edward Mesa and Alex Barrera for a great job and for making UG Men's team shine once again!!!! Go Universal....

Aug. 5-7,2011, Chile: Congratulations to Jessica Gil, Colombia National team, who won1st Place on Floor and 3rd Place on Vault at the South America Senior Gymnastics Championships, event finals.  Congratulations to Mariana Chiarella , Peru National Junior Team member who also qualified for finals in 4th Place Balance Beam. Senior teams from Brazi, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela participated at this very important event in preparation for the 2011 Panamerican Games and World Championships. TOKYO, Japan, July 3, 2011 – Danell Leyva won the all-around bronze medal at the 2011 Japan Cup.  Leyva scored an all-around total 89.200 for third place.
